Bio
Marcello Pierpaolo Caroppo (MPC) is an Italian DJ and music producer. He was born in April 1981 in Tricase, in the Italian province of Lecce, Puglia. He spent his early childhood in Ruffano, a small town in Lecce with around 10,000 inhabitants, until the age of 18.
His first foray into the world of DJing came in 1994, at the young age of 13. Thanks to help from his parents and savings from a series of summer jobs, he bought his first turntable and began dazzling crowds at parties with his skills.
MPC then brought his music to other cities, including Florence and eventually Bologna—his current place of residence—where he built a career as a club DJ and radio show producer.
His first major success came in September 2003, when he started working as a DJ and producer for Radio International in Bologna.
In 2005, together with other DJs, he collaborated on the music radio show MIXING IN ACTION, which was syndicated on more than 25 radio stations across Italy.
Following that, MPC played a key role in creating the FUTURA FM project—an online radio station that allowed him to apply everything he had learned over the years. He personally oversaw the music programming and hosted HOUSOLOGY LIVE, a show broadcast in syndication on more than 30 radio stations nationwide.
In November 2007, he began collaborating with ALTERNATIVE SOUND PLANET, a record shop and recording studio, where he worked with various house music labels under THE SAIFAM GROUP. During this time, he used several aliases, including: PAUL CARPENTER, DJ FERNANDO LOPEZ (until 2011), BOLOGNA CONNECTION, BAD BROS, AFRIKANER, and K88—all until 2011—to vary his numerous releases throughout the year.
He ended his collaboration with SAIFAM in March 2011 and began a new partnership with the historic dance music label EXPANDED MUSIC, where he currently curates label operations and activities.
MPC has worked on various remixes and collaborations with artists such as Sigue Sigue Sputnik Electronic, Afrika Bambaataa, Ramirez, Atahualpa, Floorfilla, Technoboy, Olli Vincent, and Michelle Weeks, to name a few.
He continues to produce dance music under the stage names PAUL CARPENTER, OPRAK, and CAROPPO.
